
When: Sunday mornings, 8:30 am
Where: PDODC training grounds, Jenkins Reserve, corner Fenden and Saints Rds, Salisbury
Why: This is the Utility Dog training class and the dog is expected to work away from the handler, relying on its natural instincts.
Equipment: A good fitting soft collar or slip collar; a gentle leader can be used. A lead that is not too long and made preferably from cotton.
Scent Discrimination:
õ a set of articles (five wooden, five leather and five metal, all clearly numbered)
õ a set of tongs
õ a canvas bag with pegs
Seek Back:
õ The article must not be white or conspicuous in colour and must be the same shape as a scent discrimination article. It may be of any material but must not exceed the dimensions of a scent discrimination article.
Directed Retrieve:
õ This exercise requires the handler to provide three predominantly white, wrist length cotton work gloves which must be approved by the judge.
Food Refusal:
õ Three types of food in separate containers.
All other equipment is provided by the club.
Aims: The aims of this class are to have a dog and handler that:
õ seek back
õ directed jumping
õ scent discrimination
õ silent signal exercises from 5 metres
õ down stay with handler out of sight (7 minutes)
õ speak on command
OR
food refusal
OR
directed retrieve (gloves)
õ group examination stand position
