When:  Sunday mornings, 9:30 am

Where: PDODC training grounds, Jenkins Reserve, corner Fenden and Saints Rds, Salisbury

Equipment:  A good fitting soft collar or slip collar. The type of collar depends on the breed of dog and your instructor can advise on that. And a lead that is not too long and made preferably from cotton. Nylon leads can burn your hands and a chain lead is not recommended. Lots of puppy treats to reward and encourage your puppy throughout class. Remember, do not feed puppy before training.

Aims:  Puppy class teaches the fundamental commands you need in everyday life and forms the basis of what is learnt as you go through the classes. The aims of this class are to have a puppy that is happy to:

õ be handled by people
õ socialise with other dogs
õ try new equipment without undue fear
õ walk on a lead without undue pulling
õ come to the handler when called

Format:  Puppy class is broken into three, short working sessions with plenty of chances to ask questions and talk about what you are learning. These sessions are made up of:

Heelwork. Using food you are taught to teach your puppy to heel and sit.

Recalls.
Puppy recalls are the foundation for having you dog ‘come’ when it is called.

Equipment.
The equipment session gives puppy confidence in different situations.

Graduation:  Puppies will generally graduate at 6 months, but only if they have achieved the first three aims.
