

When: Sunday mornings, 10:30 am
Where: PDODC training grounds, Jenkins Reserve, Saints Rd, Salisbury
Equipment: A good fitting soft collar or slip collar; a gentle leader can be used. A lead that is not too long and made preferably from cotton. Treats to reward and encourage your dog during training. Remember to not feed your dog before training.
Aims: The aims of this class are to have a dog and handler that:
õ heel in the correct position at three paces slow, normal and fast
õ reinforce the heel position; hand signals and handler's footwork
õ learn circles to the left and to the right
õ recall with the dog still on lead (running backwards)
New
õ learn sit, stand and down with the handler standing in front of the dog
õ left and right turns
õ weaving in straight lines
õ dumbbell is introduced Stage 1
Format: Class One is an extension of Learners but handlers now work their dogs in straight lines.
Graduation: To graduate from Class One the dog should:
õ Heel on loose lead good positions two hands on lead.
õ Automatic sit.
õ Good stands
õ Steady sit stay and down stay handler in front return to the dog. Exercise Finished.
õ Short recall return to dog still on lead.
